What cabinet would I use? any suggestion
I always play in small to medium places so I don't need much power. |

| | | | The wizzy 10 worked better for me with the focus than the woods. The brighter woods tended to make that little 10 sound kinda brash. At low supportive volumes with some eq I'm sure it would be great.
The EA wizzy 12 M line sounded very good with the woods. The prototype 2x8 EA M line cab that will probably be released sometime this or next year might be worth auditioning with the Woods as well. It was tighter and slightly brighter than the M line 12 without quite as much subwoofer style low end.
The Woods and the VL208 they no longer make sounds really great. The Woods and the Glokenklang 12" space somethingorother sounded pretty good with the woods too.
Of things you can run out and buy easily today the Wizzy M line 12 would be my first choice with the Woods on Double Bass. |

| | | | My experience has been in paring the WalterWoods with
1.) Epifani pro series 112: Punchy, not as much low-mids as I'd like, but cuts very well. It did sound a bit "electricky" up close, but in a live mix this was definitely an advantage.
2.) Bergantino EX: This was very nice. I ended up selling the berg, but just bought an HT112 last week! Throaty, but without a huge low extension. I thought it was more mid-oriented than the EA 208. A bit heavier box than the Epifani.
3.) Euphonic Audios VL208: A nice dark cabinet to complement the Woods brightness and articulation. My top choice. Something very natural about the way this cab speaks. The cab is really quite dark but the attack is never lost.
4.) EV TL 606 designed 15": dark, throaty and punchy. Not as dark as the VL208 though, and the cab is really heavy.
In all honesty, all the cabs sounded really very good, but also quite different. I'd be happy working with any of these cabs in combination with the Woods. The Epifani/Berg combo was amazing, as was the EV TL 606/Berg.

| | | | I really don't think you can go wrong with the cabs mentioned. It really comes down to personal taste, and, to some end you just end up sounding like you, which is good to keep in mind as you start listening to the various products out there. As you hear how your amplified sound changes when you change cabs, I'd encourage you to listen to what stays the same. Keep that critical ear open.
. . . an keep your eyes on the used market, find some deals, check out some different things. Hopefully it will be worth your while. |

Epifani UL110 (preferably with the series I driver- look for a used one)
I use it just about every day with a woods head for Upright, and electric- even a 5 string with a low b. At low volumes it is the best. Period. I've A/Bed with the EA Whizzy M-line and I prefer this cab.
It has it's volume limitations but I think it qualifies as a contender for medium venues playing with acoustic ensembles (i.e.: drummers we like)
22lbs
around $300 smackers used.
I like it so much I might just buy another.
I also use an Epifani UL310 but that is a big, bad cab. More than most upright players need unless you play lots of outdoor festivals. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
