What is your favorite cab for your upright

I am putting together my ultimate upright rig and need some help.

My last rig was an Aguilar 1x12" and a Walter Woods head and I'm checking in to see what's new and improved before I make my next purchase.

I currently have a Genz Benz Shuttle Max 9.2 and want to pair up a cab.

I have a GK MB112 that just isn't cutting it.

I usually play medium volume jazz gigs, no SVT Rockabilly needs and I'm looking for a warm, articulate, natural sound with very little coloration.

All input is appreciated.

I play upright through a ShuttleMax 9.2 as well...cabs have come a very long way. A lot of jazz players seem to like the Crazy88. I'm digging the Fearless 112 for small to medium volume gigs these days

A lot of folks swear by the Phil Jones combos, 2X is common but they come bigger. I have friends who use them with great success in cafes etc. Great tone. Very reliable.

I've built my own 1x12 and 1x8 cabs that I'm quite happy with. So I'm not much help on the cab front.

I've tested a lot of cabs recently and my favorite for upright was (surprisingly) a combination of markbass NY 4x6 (w/ horn) and 115. It covers all bases and renders the acoustic sound very well and as a bonus it sounds really good with my 6-string slab too!

I love my Euphonic Audio 12" M line wizzy powered by an Acoustic Image Clarus. Not the smallest but loud enough for any gig.

The Big E cabs made by Mike Arnopol are wonderful. The 4x5 I auditioned was the best upright cab I've ever used.

I grabbed a Wizzy 10 about a month ago. Sounds fantastic but I do more folk/bluegrass/Irish than Jazz. Also, if you like the GB head, why not check out a Shuttle or NEOX?

Acme B1 or Euphonic Audio VL208 are still my faves both with AI Focus head.

My favorite "cab" at the moment is the PJB Super Flightcase BGM-300, with 6 5" drivers. This really makes me wonder about the Big E cabs, and whether they give the same sort of presence. It also reminds me of the days when the "hip" DB amp was a Walter Woods head driving a Bose 802 PA cab with 8 (roughly) 5" drivers. Maybe there's something there... or maybe not.

FYI, the Crazy8, Crazy88 and fEARless/fEARfull cabs referenced here have been discussed at length in this forum, to the point where they are referenced as if their existence is universally known outside the realm of Talkbass. Search this forum for threads and read.

I really really love my Crazy8 built by Mike Arnopol (It's perfect for the small-medium venue, Gypsy Jazz and drumless rockabilly trio stuff I do), and the thread on the Big E stuff is pretty convincing. More expensive than the Aguilar or bigger name cabs, but in another league sound-wise (in my experience with the Crazy8, and according to testimonials in these hallowed pages of TB).

I have a PJB-150 Flightcase. Incredibly transparent. Amazing for small rooms. Most of the time I seriously cannot tell that it's on til I turn it up too loud and stick my face in front of it.

That said I'm finding that I use the EA Wizzy 10 more and more and will be adding a Wizzy 12 to it shortly. Gonna prop the 10 up on a speaker stand and have the 12 on the floor when needed. It's just alot more versatile.

I played a backyard gig on Friday with the 10 and the PBJ (both on the floor on some grass). The results were interesting. The 10 gives you that in-your-face sound. When I disconnected the Flightcase, the sound was wimpy and anemic with just the 10 by itself. It's certainly a fascinating combo by itself.

I'm using the TC Elec BG250. Sort of low end compared to the suggestions so far, but at 35 lb. and 250w it is plenty for me.

Personally, I'm happiest with my Fearless 112...37lbs, can be used upright or in a wedge position for tight stages...it's on the boutique end of things...depends on how picky you are
