10 Years Since my Debut album, and a brand new one with Trip Wamsley...

April 2000, I joined Talkbass...

August 25th 2000 was the day my first solo album, And Nothing But The Bass came out.

10 years later, today has just been my biggest download sales/listens day ever, thanks to my brand new duo album with Trip Wamsley, Slow Food, which was released yesterday.

It's been quite a ride. I wonder if anyone reading this was around then - did you pre-order the CD? The pre-orders I got from Talkbass and The Bottom Line (remember that?) almost covered the entire cost of making the album.

Fast forward 10 years and Slow Food is a download-only album, released at higher-than-CD quality (24bit files) via Bandcamp, and has made more in a day than I've made in the last year from Amazon, iTunes and eMusic.

The internet is a wonderful, wonderful thing

Anyway, the new album can be had from http://music.stevelawson.net/album/slow-food and you can pay whatever you think it's worth. The big recording industry keeps trying to tell us that recorded music has no value unless you threaten to sue people for sharing it, but music lovers the world over keep proving them wrong, and for that I'm most grateful.

I wrote a blog post about the anniversary here -
http://www.stevelawson.net/2010/08/a...ars-old-today/ if you want to read it.

cheers, and thanks for all the support over the years - a decade in solo bass is about 15 lifetimes in X-Factor/American Idol terms

Thanks for the album Steve.

I always prefer methods like this where I can contribute the amount I want and the artist recognizes the fan, there's a two way street. I'm encouraged more to pay for something on a whim (as I did with your album).

All the best for the next ten years, I hope you continue to be successful.

On another note: your cover of 'love is a battlefield' is fantastic.

good for you, my brother. i remember when you used to hang on alt.guitar.bass as well. not a whole lot going on there these days but it's still somewhat active. you've set a great example for musicians who march to their own beat in how to best use the internet to build a career. all the best in the future!

Thanks, Steve! And it would be an honour to play a gig with you one day.
