Flicking?

I just want to make sure I won't be hurting myself playing this way. When I flick, spanish style, the motion of my hand is the exact same as my slaping motion except I extend my fingers so I catch the string with the middle of my nails. Is that how the pros do it?

Sounds good to me - I do the same thing occasionally. I think Stanley Clarke uses that technique a lot...
