Your post is a bit open-ended, don't you think?

Read through the manual first. I found it very helpful. After having read through it, write down any questions you still have. I would be happy to help you out then, if I can.

The Ableton Live manual is actually one of the more readable manuals out there. The built-in tutorial files are also pretty good. Third option is to trawl (not TROLL) the Abletone Live Forums and have a look in the "Tips and Tricks" section. LOTS of really cool tricks stored away in there.

If you have questions about using Live why not post them back here? I'll keep an eye open and try to help if I can. I have to say though that I'm still learning the Live6 FX Racks, so may not have all the answers there (yet). There's a number of very competent Live users on TB, so ask away!

First: What OS are you using?

Cool... I'm running OSX10.4.9, Macbook Pro, Live6 but I've got fair amount of experience at running Live5... I'd be happy to help!

You just got it but don't have version 6? If you're going to use it, get 6. It's worth it.

there are literally s**tloads about ableton uses vst's which are the standard for plugins outside of protools.

voxengo do some very nice free plugs, as well as some nice ones you need to buy. Kjaerhaus audio also has some noteable free ones.

www.kvraudio.com is a computer audio database which has a huge selection of vst plugins, both free and very expensive.

other noteable manafacturers of vst are Native Instruments, Linplug, Arturia, Waves, Ohmboyz etc. there are hundreds, maybe thousands of others.

installing is easy, just double click the installer you downloaded, and when it asks you to specify the vst plugins folder make sure you have gone to C:/prgram files/ableton live/vst plugins or something similar. though to be honest most installers will detect your plugins folder automatically.

if, in the case of very small plugins made by audio enthusiasts rather than companies (some of which are still very good), you just get a .dll file, simply put this file in your vst plugins folder as stated above. if its compatible with ableton it will be 'read' and loaded into your plugin list next time you start ableton.
