Has anyone else have an issue with Ableton and different movie file formats? Does it only play .mov files? I don't have a steady internet connection and and converting is a major irritant for me. What other DAWs work better for video editing?

ableton is not a full blown video editing program (yet, anyway), but it does allow you to drop in video to score to.
you can do minor editing and even video warping to a degree (at least with version 8),
but imho you are better off using a dedicated program
like final cut pro (if on mac).
i generally score to mpeg4 clips in live, then export the sound and render with the source video at a better resolution, then compress video from there.
