alternatives to fender tweed cases

I've been trying to find an alternative to buying a fender tweed case for my fender jazz as the cases are pretty pricey. If anyone knows of a cheap alternative (hard shell) please let me know.

Why do you want a hard shell case rather than a gig bag?

I think hard cases offer both superior protection and can also be seen as an investment towards improved resale value of the instrument if ever sold. I'd be scouting around for a nice used case at a bargain price.

I've seen a few of the older (70's/80's - black plastic) Fender brand bass-cases with around $50 asking prices recently on my local craigslist.

I dont know where you live but here's a couple for example:

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/msg/533566702.html

Some pawn shops/music stores will split-up and offer to sell their used guitar/bass cases separately for near this price too.

Musicians friend sells a $50 tweed case that is an amazing value. The guitar players in my wifes band discovered them and bough (I think) six between the two of them.

They ain't junk
