What input devices are you guys using? I looked at the apogee Jam and iRig. Not sure which way to go.
How much money are you willing to spend? you can use Amplitube 3 free and run with a 3 dollar instrument to line cable without a lot of issues. Do you want decent quality, apogee is great, but so is motu and it is cheaper.

Does anyone know if you can use the Apogee with amplitube or ampkit? Honestly as long as I can hear my bass while playing iTunes at the same time, I'm fine.

Ampkit, Amplitube, GK app and Jamup support docking port interface, so all can use Appgee.
I tried Amplitube today with an Apogee Jam and I'm getting a bit of distortion if I use any decent volume whatsoever on the amp. I checked the input level and its fine. It's mainly on the lowest notes on the E string. I'm using the bass amplifier. I don't have the issue in GarageBand. It's almost as if the "speaker" is getting a bit fuzzy. I tried the 15 cab and the Fender 4x12.

I tried the Bass amplifier and the Fender Bassman. I listened to some of your recordings Duke and I don't hear any of hear any of the distortion I'm getting.

I'll make some recording later today using the bass amp in Amplitube which is by the way based on the Ampeg SVT CL. The Ampeg SVT CL gets a bit fuzzy when the gain is set up "high". How high is it before the amp start to distort is dependent among other on the bass used. My latest recordings on Amplitube are made on the B15R which is much cleaner.
The Bassman btw gets EXTREMELY fuzzy very early.
Which bass do you use btw?
One more note on the issue of enough volume VS too early distortion or noise. One thing is to pay attention to the input/ output gain in the setup of Amplitube. The other thing is that when using headphones it is important to use headphone amp or a mixer in order to be able to drive the headphones in order to obtain usable volume. The iPad/ iPhone can not drive all types of headphones properly. So "adjusting" the gain/ volume on the amps in Amplitube in order to obtain usable volume is not the right solution. You should first tweak the amp for the tone you are after and thereafter boost you signal with the iPad/ iPhone volume knob or through the volume control in the track recorder. If it is not enough use the gain on your mixer or your headphone amp.
I'm using a Fender Japanese P bass from the late 80s with Seymour Duncan active pickups.
The first thing I set was the input/output levels in Amplitube to make sure neither is overdriven.
I do use headphones driven by the iPad. It seems to drive them fine for music listening including your recordings. I also get good volume playing the audio demo in Amplitube on the tools page. In fact after I adjusted everything as best I could for a clean bass tone I played one of the audio demos and it was extremely loud. The bass level and demo level were nowhere close to being matched.

Ok John. I didn't get the time to record something with the bass model, but I'll have time later today. I'll use my Squier CV P bass, even thou the strings on it are quite old.
Here is a short clip where I've used my Squier CV60 P bass (old rounds) on the first part (The Final Countdown, Europe) and my Geddy Lee Jazz sig on the second part (Walking on the moon, The Police).
I don't have a definitive explanation but its working fine for me now. I did an os upgrade to 6.0.1, I closed all programs, I opened Amplitube, double checked all levels and the sound was good. I have to keep the input gain to 3 or less, I'm using he bass amp, but that's fine. The fuzziness is gone. So I'm not sure exactly what fixed it.

I noticed an improvement in sound when I did the update, too. I'm sure it was all in my head, maybe my tweaking just lined up the planets in the right order or something.
Hey I just found this thread on a search in this forum. I was going around inviting others with the same topics to the irig thread and the "virtual" thread like at the ik site. Hoping to help a few others with the vast knowledge that is the dukey one. but you started this one so I had to read it all. Good one.

Maybe the sound did improve.
Interesting! There is no iOS 6 yet for iPad so I can't comment. Strange but my old iPhone 3GS is on 6.01 but I've never tried it with AT.

Saw it, cool!!
Btw our threads regarding emulation software and interface and AT iOS in general are much longer then most threads on the IK site. I thing our threads are deeper!
