Anyone use quicktime pro? and other mac questions

Sign in to disble this ad
is it as good as imovie? can you edit video and such?

im thinking about taking everything except safari and my recording software off my computer to increase cpu usage. would this be a good idea?

i have other computers so i don't really have to have iphoto but that would be the only other program i'd save.

is it possible to delete say garageband, iweb, photo booth, ichat? would it help the computer not to have these things?

btw what is idvd and what is it used for

thanks

I started to try and explain idvd, but I think they have done a much better job then I could have. =)
I will say though, that it is easy and fun to use.

Yes, but use iMovie- it has better features, for stills, movie editing, fades, and foley, VO and music. If you get QTP, you can bounce back & forth

No- the number of apps on your computer's hard drive does not affect cpu usage. Where on earth did you get that idea?

iPhoto is very useful, especially when sending pix.

is it possible to delete say garageband, iweb, photo booth, ichat? would it help the computer not to havf you want to "improve" you Mac, add in as much ram as it will take, and get a second 7200+RPM hard drive. And study a book on (Apple) computer basics

If a program isn't running it really isn't using your CPU unless it has a driver. Also removing the app isn't going to remove the driver that is better accomplished by not installing the app in the first place. So basically by removing the app's you are just buying yourself a little disk space and you'll need to defrag to really get that in a usable space.

Apple doesn't make doing lean and mean installs easy. When installing you have to go into Custom install and start unchecked things like extra fonts and etc. Some of the app's are put on with a separate install that you can skip. OS's designed for users (Windows and OSX) are always going to put on a bunch stuffage that you don't want for a real production machine. Even the server versions of these OS's put a lot of extra crappage on. That is where real Unix is great you can do real lean and mean installs for efficient config's.

QuickTime Pro does not replace iMovie; it is an extension to it.

QuickTime is underlying software that allows your computer to encode,
decode and manipulate multimedia content. Applications like iMovie,
iDVD, iPhoto and Garageband make calls to QuickTime to perform
certain functions.

When you purchase QuickTime Pro ($29), you get a registration number
that you enter in the QuickTime Player which turns on additional
capabilities in QuickTime. Using your existing applications, you can
then work with more types of multimedia content.

I don't recommend pulling those applications off of your machine. The
only benefit is freed up disk space. The performance won't be any better.
If you need more disk space, just upgrade to a bigger drive. Drives
are cheap these days.

Quick Time Pro has a very usefull feature ; The audio speed.
You can slow down a track to learn tough passage without pitch shifting it. One of the best in that category.

I'd say keep all the Apple stuff.
Just don't install esoteric stuff , beta stuff , or un-safe internet "goodies"

A bad plugin will do a lot more damage than any Apple software.
