I know of the MPA Gold, is there a version 2? MPA Gold is a very good low-mid end preamp. You'll need new tubes though, stock Chinese ones sound harsh. Try NOS Mullards or JAN 12ax7's or Telefunkens. Big difference for the better in these boxes.
no there is not an MPA Gold 2. a google search for that pulles up listings for "MPA Gold 2 channel preamp"
there was however the original MPA and then the Gold version.
i have an MPA Gold and i like it very much. i've upgraded the tubes to some jan/phillips 5751s from KCA and it does a fine job for me. i know it's not a top shelf unit but it has turned in some good results on vocals with an AT4050 as well as other sources.
As soon as I got it changed the tubes to tung-sol's. Im pleasantly surprised, I was a little skeptical but it sounds pretty darn good for the price. My DR 880 and korg MM6 outputs are actually not line level like the manuals say, so I tried both machines through this and sounds good. Now my studio is complete!
