Bass and Amp tone settings

My amp has finaly packed in and indefinatly stored until I can afford to get it fixed plus its unreliable anyway. I'm in a new band and the gigs we are doing are mainly support so unfortunatly I'm relying on other bands to supply the bass amp. Not a good thing I know!

The Question I have is, in such a short space of time, between the din of the drummers and guitarists sound check, what do you set your tone as.

Do you set the tone on the amp and tweak it using the Bass EQ? Do you get a helping hand from someone who stands at the opposite end of the room?

What do you automoticly go for?

I've never bought a decent amp, something I'm kicking my self about as I went for the bass before the amp which no on hindsight I think it should be the other way round.
