from bass to computer the easy/cheap

what is the best and cheapist way to get my bass on my computer other than using a mic, i dont really need anyhting fancy. Also what would i need to record some of my bands stuff ( 1 guitar one bass and drums).

1/8" male to 1/4" female jack adapter, us$ 2.5 at RadioShack.
Plug your jack at one end and the line in of your soundcard at the other.
You can use a freware program such as GoldWave to record.
Add a bit of compressor (there is one in the program).
You're done.

I either record directly through the mic jack with a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter or i plug in a mic to the computer and just mic my amp. We record over fake drums that I make with fruitloops because I only have one mic so drums wouldnt sound too good. This is the most ghetto way anybody i know records but my bands mp3s sounds better then most bands that record themselves wiht a computer(that we've heard).

Don't use the mic in if you operate with line level, mic inputs are noisier.
