best bass di settings for Logic
I have been experimenting with recording my bass using di method.
I have a nio 2/4 sound card, here is my best attempt so far:
I am looking for the optimum set up in logic 9 using only logic 9 software.
For the above recording I used Bass Amp, EQ and compressor combination.
Does anyone have any set ups they have found effective?
How popular is close mic recording on the bass amp as opposed to di?
Thanks in advance.
I record the bass perfectly flat. That gives you freedom to apply any EQ/compression after tracking. If you apply "settings" before tracking, you're locked into what might be a bad recording once you place it in the band mix. The real decisions must be guided by the band mix, not an individual instrument.
Close micing can add character of the amp/cab, and possibly room ambiance if you move it away from the cab. Not necessarily an either/or choice as sometimes it makes sense to blend the DI and mic'd signals.
Read a basic book on mixing for more information.
thanks for that
Thanks for that Dave
Did you manage to listen to my soundcloud clip?
If so what do you think of the recording?
I'd go sompletely flat too. Di only and then possibly reamp if needed.
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
Benny did you take the tune off? I didn't hear it but I agree with recording flat as mixing will be much more a breeze. Good luck. Drop some samples in the future.
If you upgrade to Logic Pro X, there are some new, very good bass amp models.
