Was Binaural recorded literally with the binaural mic method? I'd love to read more about that.

yes it was.
creates quite an interesting effect with headphones, actualy designed for headphone use. record by placing two mics 7" apaert (to simulate a persons ears) in a rom and play. simple enough but very cool.

I went back and listened to the tracks of Binaural that were recorded as such, and I found that coincidentally I actually liked those songs better overall without even knowing what I was listening to. I definitely going to try that technique for recording a full band; it's like mixing before you even record, and that is a great skill to work on.

M-S recording can sound really cool. Through headphones, it is just like you're there.
Most dual element condensers have a figure 8 pattern, that and a cardioid and you can dial in all kinds of separation. Anybody recording a live even like a choir or orchestra ought to give it a try.
