blown sound card?

I was recording my bass using my bass line out (3 pin) directly into my mic in on my computer. Apparently you aren't supposed to do that (which I found out now) and whenever I record anything (even without a microphone plugged in) is just irritating mechanical sounds. It sounds sort of like a TV that isn't getting a signal or something.

is there any way to fix my mic in on my computer now? I have a laptop, so i can't just buy a new sound card or whatever if that is the problem.

You were using an XLR (canon) balanced connection straight into the back of the soundcard?

The soundcard will not be easy to fix, infact if it is fixable it will be extremely expensive especially as it is a laptop.

Your only option is to get an external usb soundcard now
