?

i got a nady audio srm-10x, a simple 10channel with quite a nice selection of ins and outs. btw, im new to mixers

anyway, could i use the stereo record out (red/white plugs) to record into my computer, by using a red/white-->1/8th inch connector?

also, could i use the mixer as a DI?

Yeah you can use that to record to your PC, we did that with our first attempt at recording and it worked out "ok" .

Just make sure you have all the levels set and everything sounding as you want it, ie do some dummy runs, as you wont be able to do anything to the instruments individually.

And I dont see why you couldnt use it as a DI

Im not sure what you mean by using it as a DI. Most boards have line level and mic level. You could try plugging your bass into the line level but it usually doesnt sound very good. A good DI will clean up your signal alot. Especially on a nady board.

the answer is: YES, and even with my soundblaster line in

i can run it directly to the mixer, or through the back of my amp into mic line

Sure you can do it, but it's not going to sound too hot. You need some kind of sequencer program for the PC to record (could use audacity or reaper if you don't want to buy software), and as long as your inputs aren't muted on the PC, you should be fine. If you just want to use it for some rough recording to get some ideas down, it might be alright, but if you want it to sound good you're going to have to look into a real recording interface.

Thumbs up

Yeah, What all the above guys said, However, you may want to consider using a DI from your bass, then to the mixer. Sometimes the the low end is compromised going straight into a board.

The main thing when using PA mixers for recording is the noise. The acceptable noise for PA work can be too noisy for recording. A basic DI is just an impedance matching transformer that's it. If the mix has Hi-Z inputs you can plug instruments in and send the line out to your computers line-in. Remember with a basic mixer like that you are sending the mixed sound to your computer. Taking advantage of stereo you can send two tracks from mixer to computer.
