Codec needed to play my recording ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have just made some recordings on guitar rig 2. I export the file as .wav to save it on my hard drive but when i play it through windows media player it says i need a codec tag 1 or something. I downloaded K-lite mega codec pack (alot of codecs) in hope that it would contain the codec i needed but it didn't Is it not playing because it has been recorded at 2116kps, i mean i recorded 1 and a half minutes and the file was 9.1MB ? If anyone can shed any light on the subject i would be greatful. Thanks

I can't say why your file isn't playing back in Windows Media Player (I'm a Mac guy), but have you tried any other players? If not, you might want to try Quicktime (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html). I recently bought a Zoom H4 which records .wav files, and Quicktime plays them back just fine on my iMac.

You also might want to try VLC.

Hey, you mentioned that you recorded at 2216kps. I'm not familiar with that, but if you recorded a raw WAV file and your recording is not 16 bit, or if your sampling rate is not 44.1KHz, you'll have trouble with standard playback. Most people record at higher resolutions, then transform the recording to "standard CD" quality of 16 bit/44.1KHz.

Good luck,
- Rob

The file's bitrate is 2116kps, audio sample size 24 bit audio sample rate 44 KHz and audio format PCM. I will try playing it via another player i think Note: i didn't have High Res selected

Yea I had the same problem with my original recordings, and couldn't figure it out for about a day. I later figured WMP just couldn't handle as much information (like 28 Mb for a 1 minute song) so I lowered the quality and it worked like a charm.
