Question is this a common problem when recording bass?

This is driving me nuts, hope someone can help me out....

I have Logic pro 7, a G5, and a Motu 986HD interface with my audio out from my bass amp going into it.

now my problem is when I click record and get my basslines on track. When I'm playing along live with whatever drums and guitar lines I may have, the timing is right on, but on playback the bassline is thrown off tempo and sounds out of wack. It may start out on time but as it keeps playing its as if its playing faster than the rest of the track.

what may cause this problem? anything in the Logic? am i missing a piece of hardware or equipment?

hope someone can help me out

Buffer size??? Latencey issues? Maybe go to the help menu of Logic and type in latency, maybe you need to change your buffer size. Is this a problem that just arose or has it been happening for a while?

it honestly recently happened...

I do remember changing the buffer size because it would stop midway the song...so I thought maybe the buffer size wasnt right which caused it to overload maybe. The higher the buffer size the better?

whats the proper number to have it at?

I doubt it has to do with buffer size. (but I'm usually wrong )
With latency, it usually is just a "monitoring" latency, and not a recording latency. Check your settings for your MOTU interface and for Logic and make sure it's still set for internal time clock of the MOTU controller.

I'm not sure about logic or what options it has, but in all the other audio software I've ever used, higher buffer size generally equals more latency. The optimal setting would be the lowest number (ie. smaller number) you can set it at without it stopping or giving you playback errors. Trial and error.

I know MOTU's CueMix app supposedly lets you monitor with no latency, I have no idea how that would integrate with Logic though. Perhaps you'd get better input on the MOTU board...
