Confused on Recording Option

Sign in to disble this ad
So I've been reading and searching for what ways there are to record and I'm quite confused on what to use. From what I've gathered there are 3 option to record:
1.DI box to Preamp into the computer
2.Micing the amp
3. running into a sound interface or micing the amp from the sound interface

Eventually I'll probably will amass all of these, but where should I start?

Thanks

Your best options are all going to run through an interface before hitting your computer. The built in sound card will most likely not yield anywhere near as good of a result as if you use an interface.

You could plug straight into the interface if it has a high-impedance input, go from a DI to the interfaces preamp, mic your amp, or do a blend of a direct and mic'd signals.

here's a cheap experiment:

for a hair over 100$ basically a recording studio in a box. endless fun on the cheap. if you get serious you can get better stuff, and you will always find a use for this stuff.

I just posted this here:

What do I need to do a recording w/ my amp? post #6

Cheap and cheerful to get you started for the adapter is a couple of bucks and Audacity is free. If you want to improve the quality over time, you can look into with an interfaces and better quality software as suggested by the others. For practice and/or the jam tracks I record, I don't need anything fancy or expensive.
