A Digital/Analog converter converts digital (music) data into an analog signal, e.g. the bits from the CD into a music signal. It's usually integrated into the cd player.
You can't use that to make a recording, for this you need its counterpart, a analog/digital converter.
And you'd still need a cd burner. Hifi standalone CD burners have a built-in A/D converter.

DAT recorders have AD/DA converters you can use for external signals, but stereos usually have not.
