Question Delta 1010LT vs Audiophile 192

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I'm finally able to get the recording software (Cakewalk Home Studio 6 XL) and a nice soundcard for recording.

I found a used Delta 1010LT that I got for $100. Originally, I was looking at the Audiophile 192. It seems as though the Audiophile 192 will have a higher recording rate (I think that's right) at 24bit/192khz verses the Delta with 24bit/96khz.

If you had the option for either card (the Audiophile will be around $50 more for it), which would you get? Also, would the higher rate make a big difference?

Thanks all,
JB

First of all, bit depth (24 vs. 16) is a LOT more important than sample rate (192 vs. 96). A higher sample rate is not necessarily an indicator of higher quality converters. A higher sample rate will only serve to increase your file size dramatically without any noticable improvement in audio quality. Recording at 24/44.1 (or 24/48, for video) will get you good quality with reasonable file size.

If you need the additional ins and outs, the 1010LT might be the right call. Otherwise, the 192 is a fine card. The audio quality of both is pretty much the same.

Thanks Eric. Ok. After playing with the 1010LT a little last night, I think I'm going to stick with it. I was also concerned about updated drivers (Vista, just in case) and M-Audio just released updated drivers for XP and Vista, so I think I'm good there.

I'll just record at 24/44.1 and call it good. Keeping the 1010LT will save me some change that I can use for other music stuff.

Thanks very much!
