Direct out and recording question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, this is probably a newb question, but i have an eden nemisis rs-400 with a direct out plug on the back. I have previously used audacity and recorded my bass line-in straight to my pc. My question is, if i run my bass through the eden and then from the direct out to the pc, will i be able to use the tone shaping controls(eg, enhance, etc.) to control my tone for recording, and does this risk any damage to my computer?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks

I'm not sure if your Eden's DI is just a clean balanced (bass-guitar only) signal or not, but you could hook it all up and run a quick test twisting some of your amps knobs, and then monitor through your computer to be sure. (your manual might say too)

If your DI doesn't "use the tone shaping controls", and your amp has a "Preamp-out" or "Effects-send" (or fx-out/record-out, etcetera) jack, you could use this output instead to connect to your computer. This is a preamp-level output signal (so adjust your sound card's input level accordingly) that should be effected by most (if not all) of your amps tone shaping controls.

Your DI and preamp-level inputs should both be safe to record through your computer.
