Echo Audiofire is the best bang for the buck in that range

http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/FireWire/

Converters are TOP class, and price is way too low for the quality you get...

Dunno when they where released, but they've been around for the last year at least.

If you only need 2 channels, you could also get a good not to expensive AD/DA and use the optical i/o on the macbook pro instead (I do this) ...

You cant go wrong with an MBOX2. I have a MacbookPro with an Mbox2 and i dont regret it at all.

Right now, im doing my bass tracks at home for an album with Protools LE. I grabbed the sessions from the studio ( protools HD) and it works great. I can edit my own tracks and even the some drum edit on the fly if i see detect some flams. I just have to save the session to be compatible with Protools HD 6.9

I do recommend an external firewire disk like "Lacie Little big disc" Its a mini raid disc with a firewire 800 connector

Except for the fact that mbox2 has unbalanced output connectors...

Protools is all about marketing, but their software is pretty good, though most of their hardware is either expensive, or just suck in comparison to competitors in same price range .. (or both)...

However, if you go down the digi road, you cant have one without the other ..ie. if you want to run Protools software, youre stuck with digi hardware ...

Echo as a corporation has been around for years .. however the Audiofire series are 1-2 years old and I recommended them coz in their pricerange, there's not really anything that beats them soundwise...

I would say check out the Apogee Duet and the RME FF400. Unless you plan on running PT I would not use MBox.
