Hi all, i thought I'd bring this thread to the attention of this part of the forum, it contains many great thoughts on getting a great bass sound. The focus of the thread is pop/rock bass but they are discussing getting a sound of the highest possible 'level' so its applicable to all styles!
Its a long but interesting read, some of them are very highly regarded engineers with top albums under there belts, talking about how they like to track bass. Its interesting to see the way they talk about it, as they are engineers not bass players as such (though many do play it seems). So they have a very no nonsense approach to the process and don't have any 'emotional' tie to a particular bass and its sound (as many of us do!), its just about the results!
theres some great tips on the last page (13).
worth noting that this is the 'high end' section of the forum, and as such a lot of the gear they are talking about using is very nice, and very pricey, but the techniques are valid whether you use an mbox or a 1073 into mytek converters!

Gearslutz generally tends to end up annoying me, so many of the threads go into huge off topic arguments, to many people desperate to justify their $?X!@*k purchases, but there is also a heap of top class info if you can put up with the arguments! this thread seems to stay largely clear of that!
