Headphone outs for recording?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I was thinking of purchasing a peavey royal 8 tube amp to record guitar, but it doesn't have a line out. Would I still get a decent quality recording from the headphone output? unfortunately miking the amp is out of the question (i'm broke lol).

It'll sound crap. It is do-able, but, it'd sound crap

Its a tube amp anyways, you want to mic it. You can get dynamic mics pretty cheap. A while back me and the guys in my band wanted our own mics, so we pitched together and got a pack of three behringer dynamics for ~£20. Ok, so, they arent amazing. But there isnt a huge deal of difference between them and say an SM-58.

Also, while not too good, you can get condensor mics for under £20 if you look in the right places.

Find a used mic somewhere if you can.
Otherwise its pointless to have the tubes for recording because the DI is before the pwoer tubes and you do not hear the speakers.

If you can't mic the amp, you're much better off just getting a POD. They're not too terribly expensive, especially used.
