Headphone recommendation,please?

I'm a bassplayer and do most of my practicing with headphones.I have a set of older AKG K 240s and I had a set of Sony professional headphones which blew up( fortunately I was not wearing them when the drivers were blown out) and cannot be repaired.I liked the output of the sonys but the mids seemed a bit off compared to the AKGs which sound great but seem to be a bit powerhungry.
So I'm in the market for a new set of headphones.
I like them to be efficient, comfortable to wear for long periods of time, good tight bass, nice realism and clarity. They should be able to handle me playing slapbass through them and should not be terribly expensive.
Is there a model that stands out?

I really like Grado. Great sounding, very comfortable and not expensive.

my personal favorite pair the beyerdynamic DT770. very light and comfortable, HUGE frequency range (5 - 35,000 Hz, i think), and they sound nice and sweet (but true to your tone/music). i've had them for a good year-and-a-half now. i like. they may be a little much for you, though. they usually go for $199.

my second favorite would be the HD280 by Sennheiser.

For my personal tastes, Grados are the best I know of for a reasonable price. I've always found the Sony 7506 subjectively fun, but not remarkably accurate (somewhat hyped lows and highs). The Sennheiser HD280s leave me kinda cold--there seems to be a slight boxiness about them. The Beyer DT770s are supposed to be great, but I haven't yet been able to check them out (I tried at GC, but they didn't have a floor model and wouldn't open a box for me). They also cost twice what the Sonys or the Sennheisers cost.

I have the Grado SR60. They sound, 'transparent'. Really clear and clean, opened and uncoloured. The sound is just very very clean, not brittle, not bassy just pure. What you play is what you get. A change from those crappy bass-heavy headphones I used to have before.

A couple of issues. The headset feels fragile, mainly due to the light weight and the heavy cord dangling from it. Not a problem so far, but I treat them with respect.

The cord is 6' long, with a 'Y' split about 10'' down, then a thick and heavy cable, with a chunky jack. sturdy would be the word. As with all headphones, the problem is the cord, and this one is pretty fat and relatively short. That's my only gripe with the headphone.

Comfort is good. They stay firmly on the head, and you don't even notice you are wearing them after a while. Really glad I made the plunge, they are 'nice'!

I +1 the Grado's and HD 280 Pro's. I bought the Grado SR80's as my first pair of quality headphones. The response was very flat and accurate ( I wanted a flat response for mixing and equalizing ), they were light, comfortable and didn't break the bank at $85. Eventually I bought the Sennheiser HD280 Pro's because I wanted a sealed pair. I like them a lot more for my purposes, the sound is great and the attenuation is impressive. They do however sort of hug your head, after a few hours I normally have to give it a break whereas this was never an issue with the Grados.

So if you're looking for sealed, look at the 280 Pro's, a lot of people really like these headphones and I picked them up for $60 from the used guitar shop.

If sealed doesn't make a difference and you just want a pair of high quality comfortable headphones that'll make you sound good, Grado is an excellent name that you should consider trying out.
