Question Help, DT770 or 7509

Sign in to disble this ad
I am a rookie here, try to read all the threads about headphones, still could not find the answer.

I got a Bass Buddy for home practise, My cheap sennheiser sucks Now I am looking for a good headphone for my BB.

Concentrate on two models, Beyerdynamic DT770 and sony MDR 7509.

The problem is, I found several version of DT770, especiall one called "DT 770M" which is said for drumer monitoring, and is much expensive.

Could anyone give me your suggestions? DT770 or 7509, if DT770, which model is reasonable? Is the "M" model worth for a bass player? Many thanks.

Never tried the Sony, but for home practice you don't need the "M" if you go for DT770 as the only real difference is that the "M" model has higher ambient noise reduction.

(Which is good if you're sitting behind a drumkit or other loud soundsources).

Yes, I have both of those models and use them regularly. The DT770's have much better sound quality and are much more comfortable for long listening sessions. The Sonys are more easily portable and have a big hump in the low-mid-range, so you don't need to turn up the volume as much to feel like you're hearing strong bass. The Sonys are compatible with almost all modern consumer recording equipment, whereas the DT770's come in at least two different impedances--one is for modern consumer equipment and the other is for older recording consoles.
