how suitable would this proposed setup be?

Afternoon,

I was going to buy a Bass POD xt live but as i'm going back to college i won't be gigging enough to _really_ need it and it would be used primarily for me to record bass lines for my own music.

So, i'm thinking of getting a Zoom b2.1u instead, as they are a lot cheaper - the life of a college student puts a price tag on everything! As i'll have it if i do get involved in another band in college, chances are high of this actually!

I've read a lot of posts that say USB is sort of okay for recording, but firewire and pci are the better, and the best.

My proposed setup will be this:

bass (aerodyne) -> b2.1u -> laptop

If anyone saw my Macbook Help thread, they'll know why i'm using a laptop instead of a PC. I'm not looking for top quality studio stuff, i'm only interested in recording a bass line that i can then import into a mix for my own songs. I'm sick of having to program everything!

If all you're doing is recording one or two tracks at a time, then USB has plenty of grunt for you. Yeah, Firewire's faster and better, it's also non-standard on most PCs, more expensive and overkill for a lot of peoples needs.

Do you drive a Ferrari down to the corner store?

I highly recommend the B2.1u to anyone looking for a simple and value added PC recording solution.
