... I don't work well with confusion

I have read quite a few threads on this forum, and I have heard quite excellent input from everyone here, but I need to make this because I would like to have all of questions answered at once (lazy? Yes. Yes I am.). I want to know what type of gear exactly I will need to start recording my bass solo work for review. I don't need any high end recording devices, but if I can find them cheap, then bargain is my middle name . I work with a lot of techniques, and therefore my speed and frequency is going to change quite a bit. I don't know what I'm doing as far as this is concerned and I have heard and been given so many ideas, but really I just need one (or a few) good list(s) to get me going. Please suggest some good, cheap equipment for me to take on this next big step in my career. If you respond to this, thank you for your time

Buy a digital recorder and be done with it. I have an Edirol, and it's a great rig.

This. If you're just recording yourself, get one of those small portable recorders and use that. You download your music out of the device onto your computer following whatever instructions came with the device, then you can post it up to wherever after you convert to MP3 if necessary.

Start simple and work your way into complexity as you master the process and equipment. I started with a cassette 4 trak way back when and gradually worked my way into the studio I have now. Along the way I developed my recording chops and those techniques are still paying off. There are tremendous possibilities today but I still find that simpler is better.

clarify:

- what format will your work be reviewed in? tape? mp3? cd? WAV?

-do you plan to involve your PC as a tool? (some answers just assume this, but its not always the case)

-do you need to record your amped signal? (you'll need a mic)

if all you need is record and play back, you can probably find a decent used 4 track cassette for cheap, which you can just plug into.

If you can afford it a zoom h2 is a pretty awesome digital recorder ~$199

If your PC has a mic in, a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter is under $10, and audacity is a free download.

First, I really don't mind what format it ends in, as long as its clear. Second, I assumed I would need to, which I probably will, but its not absolutely necessary. Third, no. To everyone, thank you for your responses, you've honestly helped. When I come to a definite decision as to exactly what I'll be buying, I'll report it here.
