Ibanez is Confusing Me...!

So I wanted a 4 string "backup bass"... that I can use for lessons, etc. (band is in flattened tuning) that's halfway decent and will do what I want it to. I found the Ibanez SR400QM. It's active with a mid knob (something I love and don't see enough), 24 frets and it has a really nice finish (I'm guessing I'm going to have a fetish for purple basses... ). I looked it up on YouTube, and I love the sound. My point is, all of this was going fine. And then I realized... some of the pictures do NOT have the mid knob, but are classified as SR400QM. This began to confuse me. So, I went back to the Ibanez site. Here it is on the Ibanez site:

It has the knob. So I figured those were just, silly. Then, I looked at ALL the SR basses.

According to Ibanez, ALL the SR basses have a mid knob. I guess what I'm asking is, if I were to buy this off of Musician's Friend or Sweetwater, would they give me the lavender burst with the mid knob. Someone who generally understands SRs would he wonderful, thank you SO much.




Also, wasn't sure if this is the right forum for this, as it pertains not to just one instrument... really.

It looks like the charcoal brown version has three separate tone knobs, while the lavender version has the bass and treble knobs stacked in one position. Kind of an odd decision on Ibanez's part, but you'll definitely have your mid tone knob.

EDIT: I have an SR500, and I love it. It's light, it looks great, it's comfortable to play, and sound guys always have an easy time getting a good sound out of it.

Only the 2011 and 2012 models have 5 knobs (volume, balance, bass, mid, treble)

The earlier models have 4 knobs, but one of them is stacked. It's a mid sweep filter. I personally didn't like it.

Even earlier models than that probably had different control schemes. Ibanez changes that kind of thing almost every year.

Is the SR400QM a 2011 model. By the way, I like the mid knob so I can cut mids. I used to cut mids all the way but it's way too quiet.

I would call MF to find out if the newer sr400QM were in stock and specifically ask for the "5" knob version. MF may have a boat-load of the old version that they're trying to get rid of.
The newer versions has a mid control (which is way better than the crappy stylesweeper as KingRazor said) and it sports a newer version of humbucker pickups. The old pickups really sucked big time too becuz they had low volume problems for the D and G strings.

earlier models had the style sweeper midrange knob, with stacked bass and treble controls. they've since updated all their non-made in Japan basses to have three separate bass, mid, and treble controls.
