Interface to pair with Mackie 402?
I know there's a million "what interface" threads but I couldn't find one for this specific mixer.
Basically I don't need an interface with any xlr inputs just 1/8" or 1/4" stereo input because everything is going in to the mackie and also want something that will not clash with this mixer.
You don't need a mixer, just get an interface with the number of inputs you want to record at once, plug into it and call it good. Keep it simple.
Download manuals and make sure it is capable of accepting mic, instrument and line levels, to be compatible with whatever you are wanting to connect to it.
If you like mixers then try something like a Mackie 820i or 1220i and you got an interface built in and it will work with instruments, keyboards, or mic's
Many starting out "think" they need a mixer but its not really required. An interface IS required and usually has the inputs required without a mixer.
The mixer is in your software.
If you want to record 8 sources at once,
Get and 8 ch interface.
You can run a 16 channel mixer into a 2 channel interface but you're wasting your money on the mixer because you can still only record 2 things at once to their own tracks.
I just prefer to mix and eq in pre and not post.
Since you already have the mixer and you want to keep it, all you really need is this:
Lexicon Alpha usb, it has two 1/4" line-in inputs in the back. It's cheap too.
This is a even cheaper alternative. The Mackie 402 has "Tape Outs" that could connect to the "Tape in" on this:
