iPad apps used for recording and midi devices

So I recently got an iPad. I record with Ableton Live 8, and I'm in a dub reggae set up, so the turntablist I play with also uses Live with an APC controller, serrato, and a mixer for when we play live. Now, I can run my rig and incorporate Ableton into my live set up using my laptop. It's opened up a whole different world for my live set up. I've discovered some cool apps for the iPad and I'm sure there are more out there.

TouchAble -
This works like an APC controller, except it's on an iPad. It has almost everything an APC controller has plus it's a midi devices that can be used to control midi input in Ableton. The midi devices are pads (much like an MPC), and split set of keys. Well worth the 24 bucks I spent on it.

AniMoog -
This is a working synth that not only comes with great presets, but also has amazing control over almost all aspects of the elements that go into a synth (LFO, VCO, Envelope, Delay, etc). The control work a lot like their pedals and hardware that we've all become so fond of over the years. I haven't figured everything out on it yet. It can record and export apparently, but I haven't figured that out yet. Still noodling with it. I've had it for a total of 2 days at this point. RIGHT NOW IT'S ON SALE FOR AN INTRODUCTORY RATE. IF YOU HAVE EVER BEEN EVEN SLIGHTLY INTERESTED IN DABBLING WITH SYNTHS GET IT RIGHT NOW. IT'S CURRENTLY 99 CENTS, BUT WILL BE 29 BUCKS AT THE END OF THE MONTH.

FiltaTron -
Another Moog App that kind of works like a cross between a MURF and and a MoogerFooger. It's interface is a like one of their pedals. It made a lot of sense to me right away because I have a moogerfooger, but I haven't figured it out exactly how I would use it. It pretty much works of the iPad mic by default, but if you have other inputs like an apogee then it could work with that. I'm still trying to figure out how to use it. BUT it's also 99 cents til the end of the month. Well worth it IMO.

So other than Garageband, what else is out there, that I might dig?

Subscribed.

My son got an Ipad recently and likes to plink around with Garage Band. I'd like to see if I can record my bass and maybe even my drum machine but I'm not very familiar with what's available app-wise.

Nice. That's pretty reasonable. I really want to get one, but I'm picking up a new surfboard on thursday, so I have to chill on the spending for a spell.

I bought the iRig and amplitube. I kinda regret it. I spent the most money on this app and use it the least. So avoid it. The irig is noisy and amplitube is more suited for guitars, effects-wise.

Lots of idea sketching in Garage Band for me.

But do check out iRealB. (mix of a realbook / band in a box)

I tried lots of electronic sheet music apps and finally settled on forScore. I also bought the airturn pedal to turn my pages with my feet. I got rid of my huge binder and really happy about it.

Recently downloaded iLift, really cool app for slowing down and looping parts of songs to learn them by ear.
