iRig Help!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I've just got my iRig and, while really enjoying the experience, couldn't help but notice a lot of distortion when it comes to bass. Here's the setup:

- iPod touch 4g
- iRig
- shortscale SX jazz bass (passive)
- Amplitube (Free version)

Ok, I've changed from ultra low-to low latency, and have even activated the Noise Filter pedal. Things are fine with my Squire Telecaster, but the low notes on my bass sound really harsh, almost as if I was using a distortion effect (which I am not, by the way).

Do you think it would be better to get the bass specific effects? Any other App I should try?

Thanks a lot!

From everything I have heard the iRig really doesn't do as well as they say on bass. But first thing is first, try one of the other free effects processors and see if you can seperate hardware from software.

I use iRig with the free Amplitube app and have had no problems with my 6'er.
Does it distort when you use the tuner/bypass? If not then it may be some setting/effect/amp-cab combination. Try turning all the effects off and try different combinations of amps and speaker simulations.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot to you both. It gets quite noisy in bypass mode, to be honest. Maybe I should try other processors and apps. Maybe the Pocket Gallien Krueger.

Again, thanks for helping me!

UPDATE: I think the Pocket Gallien Krueger requires another adapter...

Well, I can just see it now -- right in the middle of a live show, the phone starts ringing through the amplifier.

And it's one of those horribly embarassing ring tones, too. Yes. I can see it now!

Nah, not me in that vid. I apologize, I just realized I wrote in my first post that I was using the free version of Amplitube. I meant to write that I'm using the paid version. The free version doesn't have the different bass amp modelers on it.

Did you set your input gain? My was doing that any if you go into 'Setup' (the little wrench) there is a Level In and Level out meter and slider.

After that adjust the volume of i-device and the gain and master on the amy you are using.

It takes some tweaking, but I've go mine sounding pretty good.

)Pocket GK works with the iRig)

Ahhh.. That should get things better! I'll give it a try. Much appreciated.

Thanks. That might help, then.

Even better: I'm not even playing. It's someone else playing via phone call!

Another tip: I was experiencing pretty weird sound that was somewhat distorted the other day playing through iRig, and then I realized the tuner was on. When you're at the amp view make sure your tuner is off. The difference is huge.

The full GK app was worth the money to get the whole eq section. I like that you can access iTunes without any messing around with loading music.

Downside on my touch is the music volume from iTunes with GK app is limited so I need to set the music volume first and adjust the volume on my bass to match. For all the limitations it is still a pretty cool set up for practicing outdoors without power.

Seems like you just need to take it easy with how hard you hit the input or the sound suffers.

If your worried about it ringing while playing you can put your iPhone in Airplane mode. I'd also close any apps running in the background and keeping the tuner off for clearer sound. If that doesn't work contact our support.

Are you using it with the iRig or their recommended App?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot. I'll try the TBers tips and will let you know if anything comes up.

I have tried the GK App and I am getting less distortion there. Alas, it doesn't send the signal to other applications (right?).

I'll check IK support forums to see if anyone knows how to solve this.

Perhaps we could all compile a sticky iRig thread after that?

@GadgetJunky: I would really appreciate if you could tell me the In and Out levels you´re using (and which FX / amp cabinets)
