Lightbulb jam over the phone

i was just sitting here thinking that maby if i took apart a phone and re soldered the mike and speaker leads to 1/4 plugs and my friend who plays guitar did the same we could jam over the phone, i know that i would need a guitar amp and he a bass amp to recive the incomeing signal. the outgoing signal would come from the line out jack on our amps. would this work?

It would sound terrible, very limited and voice centric bandwidth, and the line delay would probably cause you to be out of time even over short distances. Besides, you'd have to do more than just rewiring a handset - You've got impedances and amplitude to worry about. Putting a bass amp on one end won't improve the sound at all as it's already been processed and bandwidth limited to the hilt.

Yeah, probably not going to work well.

If you've both got quick enough Internet connections you might be able t use a VoIP program to do it though. Still those probably use voice-tuned compression as well.

Hmmm, I've played instruments over the phone, but it was more of one of those call & response things. Very fun!

The delay is still too big.
