I've been pushing for the last year to get grants funds for my classroom (music teacher, k-8, band, classroom music, etc.) to get iMacs, extra software, and MBoxes for each terminal. Well, it's all finally here (love the computers), but it took the district so long to get it rolling that the Macs have OSX 10.5 Leopard. Great operating system, but Digidesign has come out and said that the current version of ProTools LE will not function on 10.5. So now I wait for the next update... |

Which in your case is not good, but in general is a good thing. This gives Digi a chance to do a do a QA cycle on the "shrink-wrap" version of the update or upgrade.
I've spent the last couple decades working in the computer industry and as much as you'd like to believe the Apple and MS and other that the Final Beta if Final companies I've worked for have been bitten in the ass by changes made between final beta and shrink-wrap that end-users get. So waiting like Digi does avoids having to fix a fix.

That forum would get pretty testy, and I had my fill a few years ago. You're right, it'd probably work in some fashion, but I'll wait.
DocBop, I appreciate the input: I'm complaining too much, and ultimately I know you're right. I'd rather have Digi get it right with the next release than rush it and have an extremely unstable solution. I know enough to know that PT can be touchy in the best of circumstances . In the meantime, these computers aren't going to waste: they will also be video editing stations for the kids, as well as music composition (Sibelius 5) and theory training computers. |

Also, maybe you can work something with Digi to get the updates sent for free when they're available.

Ultimately, I went with Digi and PTLE because I'm most familiar with it and the hardware/software package was ideal for the situation. I'm not too worried about it at the moment, as I know that Digi will develop a compatibility update. I'll get ahold of them as well as Sweetwater to confirm that I'm not eating away at the waranty time and will be patient. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
