Anyone had experience with the Korg K-series Midi controllers? The pricing is very nice and it's got the basic but essential features. I'm particularly interested in the K25. Anyone? |

| | | They're supposed to be better than all those M-Audio controllers at the very least. I haven't tried one out, but I've been kinda looking at these too (and the bundled software M1 synth is an added temptation since I kinda like the late-'80s early-'90s Korg digital synth sound.) I have an older Edirol controller that I'm not really a fan of. Feels kinda mushy. |

On the site it talks all about the USB factor, but I basically just wanna run from the Midi out on the keyboard to the Midi in on my interface, to control software instruments in Garageband. Will that work?? |

Don't hesitate too long! |

If you want to control [hardware] synth modules and the like, you would need to pick up an external power unit (available from Korg as an accessory). In this instance, the K25 can be programmed via its own software to do whatever you like [midi out: parameters, etc.]. |

What purpose does the included software achieve? I just want to use it as a controller in Garageband to write different instrument parts and stuff, won't be using it to control external hardware. If I plug it in through the USB to power it, I'll still need to run a Midi cable to my interface won't I? |

When you do the set-up, a midi driver will be installed.
The Korg M1 (light) is in reality a VST plugin that has approx. 100 sounds from the original M1 synthesizer. When you start recording in Garageband, it will appear in your list of software instruments. The more the merrier, I say!
As for being small (AdlerAugen), there are Octave Up and Octave Down buttons on the left of the keyboard. With a bit of dexterity, you can achieve quite a lot. OK, for the more accomplished player, a larger keyboard would be better. I've found that the K25 is perfect for sequencer use. |

I can still use like the horn, guitar, etc. software instruments with the controller? |
