I'm looking at the KRK Rockit G2 5" Powered Studio Monitors for a small Home Studio (PreSonus Firebox). Does anyone have any experience...good or bad that they can share? Thanks

I like them. They're tough to beat for the money. I used to use the 8's, good stuff.

I use KRK v8's daily. good speakers, and if what I have read is to believed then most KRK speakers exibit the same characteristcs. Larger then life and exciting, a bit big on the bass but I like that, well designed and robust. I don't think you can go too far wrong.

I use the older KRK 5's and they are fantastic.

i use v8's daily also.
great monitors, very revealing in the mids where other powered
speakers tend to have a dip in response.
only thing you might want to consider is trying them out next to
something with a titanium tweet as opposed to cloth dome.
cloth dome is great for long listening and is much less fatiguing,
but going back to the term "revealing" again is how i would describe
the difference from cloth dome to titanium.
(i regularly work on genelec and mackie monitors with titanium or alloy tweets as well)
can't go wrong with the krk at the price point, though..
one last thing, i just realized i'm comparing the v, not the rockit,
if you compare that version to the rockit, well, there is no comparison. i would avoid the rockit series, personally, and buy better used, first.
imho...

I found the RP8s to be boomy and way too bright, perhaps the smaller speakers are different?

I'll primarily be looking at the 5's, mostly for cost consideration...but will try to do a side by side w/ the 8's to see how much difference there is...Thanks for all the good input.

i auditioned the v8's right next to the rockit 8's.
to me, the rockit series sounded a bit loose in the bass, not as focused as the v series. the rockits were also a bit boxy in the mids in comparison.
basically, the v's just sounded better to my ear, much more neutral/ natural in response (the point of a reference monitor). good enough that i felt i could trust mixing on them. didn't have the same reaction with the rockits. i actually auditioned about 6 sets of monitors in my price range at the time, and went with the v8's for sound and value.
but as always, you are best off listening for yourself...
