Laptop recording help

Sign in to disble this ad
A few weeks ago my wife and I bought this.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail

We're using it for everything and I wanted to add my bass tracks to various real world and internet band projects.

So far all I have is to plug right into the sound card from bass or my line out of head.

My first question is if this computer is any good in the first place?

Otherwise I've bee trying to use Audacity and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to hear my bass as I play and record. Also after I imported the rest of my bands MP3, then playing t it...I was off...is this latecy? How do I fix that?

I also have the same problem with Reaper as well....however I cn figure out how to get monitoring...but I can't figure out how to set recording level like I can with Audacity.

Anyone?

Your laptop should record you just fine, lining directly into the soundcard will not. I see you have 6 usb ports, i would suggest a line6 toneport for a really cheap recording solution.

130 bucks.

There's 6 virtual bass amps and around 30 effects to name a few features. Also has direct monitoring so you won't experience any latency problems when tracking.

You could also line out of your amp into the toneport via xlr.

Are you using the built in speakers for playback? Obviously the laptop speakers won't cover the full spectrum a bass produces to accurately hear what you're recording. Even a cheap 2.1 speaker system would be better than nothing.

I have no experience with Audacity or Reaper so i'm sorry i can't help you out there.

I've got a Klipsch 2.1, 200 watt system...works pretty good for what it is. Otherwise I was thinking of just lining out of my amp and using it for monitoring myself...and using the speakers for playback of my band. However I have the latency problem still. When I play back the bass line thatI recorded compared tothe rest of the band the sound isn't synced up.

it's only 69.99 It works perfectly, no latency issues, good amp and cabinet modeling.
The only problem is that it doesn't include recording software, where the more expensive ones come with ableton live.
