Laptops and recording

Hey, whenever i used to record, i used to plug my bass directly into my old computer, through the mic or line in imputs. I rescently bought an HP DV6000 laptop. I cant hear my bass through it though. Through both the mic input and the line in input. This thing has a built in mic. Could it be set to record through the built in mic and not the line in/mic input? Any help would me appreciated.

I have to same problem so any help would be appreciated

also: you don't want to use the built in mic if you want any usable recordings.

In your desktop, were you plugging into the input of a sound card? I would expect on a laptop that you're plugging into the on-board audio on the motherboard, which is sub-par at best. I'd either look into a better soundcard that plugs into a notebook's expansion slot, or go for a USB recording interface that can be picked up fairly cheap, $30 - $100 for one of the cheapest. I have the M-Audio Jamlab USB interface, got for $40 awhile ago, it really sucks but it gets the job done when my amp's are at my friends' houses (which they are now). If you want GOOD recording, thats a totally different ballgame, as I am no good at doing good recording, just crappy

I would start with whatever applet (from the Window's Control Panel) is controling the inputs and make sure they are

1.engaged
2. have their level's set appropriately
