line 6 pod x3. can i record my bass with this staright to pc?

Sign in to disble this ad
hi, ive been looking at getting pod x3 for cab models and effects for a while, and then getting a DAW like a tascam us-144 or similar to record with cubase.
i have cubase running with ezdrummer all working and i want to record my bass and guitar now.
i thought that the us-144 acted as a sound card aswell (mine is a simple realtek one) if this is true does that mean the x3 has an inbuilt soundcard?

It never crossed my mind that the pod x3 or x3 live could be simply pluged into my pc, listen to it through headphones for zero latency and it will record into cubase. i thought i would need to go
bass>x3>tascam us-144>pc>open audio track in cubase nuendo.

can someone please confirm or disprove this for me.

I use it with Cakewalk. It's got a usb connection and you can record guitars and microphones (there is no phantom power for condenser mics unless you go with the Pro version). You also get to use the Line 6 POD Farm plugin with the recording software. That way you can monitor a modeled tone while you record the dry input. You can then tweak the bass tone in the DAW using the same models as the X3. After you haev a sound you like, you can load it up on the POD for use live.

You're right, you don't need an extra soundcard. The X3 acts as a soundcard by itself through a USB2.0 interface. Resolution is 24 bits, but they don't seem to mention the sample frequency, but I suppose it's 96kHz. Be sure to set the driver on ASIO operation, this will drastically lower your latency.

Anyway, here's a link to the manual. Section 8 deals with the recording setup

how do i set the driver to asio?
im a complete noobie sorry.

this is great news if i can record with the pod x3 as this means i can buy some decent headphones now with the money i would have spent on a use audio interface.

Does it matter which i get podx3 or pod x3 live ?
im looking on ebay now.
thanks for your help

you can plug in a dynamic mic, but a condenser will sound much better on an acoustic. However, the x3 does not provide the phantom power that a condenser mic requires, but you can buy a box that supplies the power and sends the signal through to the pod

Hi rikismyname.

When listening and recording with headphones PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THE AMOUNT OF VOLUME THAT YOU USE!

I went half deaf from tracking and mixing a home recording project on LOUD headphones over a period of four months in the early '90's.

Another TalkBass member is going completely deaf from a similar experience several years ago.

Does anyone know if you can use headphones with the PodX3 like a practice amp?
