Live Microphone

I want to record our band live into a Tascam Portastudio. I'm undecided which mic to buy, a Studio Projects B1 or an MXL 2006. Does anyone have any experience with these microphones?

I would suggest at least a pair of mics instead of just one, for live band recording.

The S/P B1 mic your thinking about is a nice mic for the money, but in my experience large diameter condenser mics pick up way to much room noise recording a live band.

If you like studio projects mics, I would suggest a pair of S/P C-4 Small diameter condenser mics.

I own a pair of oktava MK012 mics that do a nice job as a stereo pair.
Make sure your recorder has phantom power, you'll need this for any condenser mic.

If you're taking a line from the board, you don't need any microphones. Or am I missing something?

Send a message via AIM to hyperlitem
youll need a condensor thatll do omni. Im not sure if either of those do or not, usually lower end condensors only do cardiod. You could also try messing around with a boundry or PZM mic to mix in room sound. If I were you id just mix in the room mic off the board then pan and send the stereo mix into your tascam. I assume your tascam is a stereo recorder becuase you describe your problem like you only have 2 inputs.

If you want a cheap omni then look at the Behringer ecm8000.

My Tascam is a 4 track,M/N 414 MK2. It has 4 tracks. I did some recording off the 4 subgroups on the board. Kick on CH.1 Bass & Keys on CH.2-Guitar on CH.3 & Snare & Vocals On CH.4. It's okay but it's not enough channels for a good mixdown to 2 Track & I don't have that live feel. We did have a soundman that brought an ECM8000 & ran that to the board on a separate channel & then came out 2 Track to the Tape Deck & that was pretty good. I guess i thought the MXL or the B1 would give me a better recording.
