Our sound tech has just switched me to useing headphones instead of a floor monitor for live shows. I bought a pair of hd280pro headphones and it sound great. My question is what do you guys have in the phones? Everything or just a few channels?

We use the HearBack System. So I have a mixer that allows me to put as much or little of everything that I need.

That said, the drums are cranked, my bass sits with the kick. After that, I hear just a smidge of vocal and the rest of group, just enough to be a guide.

That is what he hooked me up with but he has just a few channels filled, I used it last night and after a few songs I had an ok mix but I think it could be better.
I will see about him adding the drums to the mix that might help

Going to an in-ear, or headphone, monitor doesn't work for me unless everything I need can be mixed in.
An in-ear mix with no drums would be useless. I need drums and my bass, and a little of the other rhythm instruments. I need a smidgen of vocal, it doesn't have to be on top of my mix, just there. After that, unless there are musical cues with the instrument, I don't need it.
The HearBack is great because it allows me to mix it the way I want it. However, the Hearback has the potential for every instrument in our case.
