Looking For Online Site To Post Rehearsal Recordings For Bandmates

Sign in to disble this ad
I couldn't figure out which Forum to post this in. So thought I would try here.

We record most of our band rehearsals on my Zoom H2. Works great!
Since none of us live close together I post them on the internet so the other members can refer to them before the next time we get together.

I've used Box.net which worked great until they raised their price of $5.00 a month. Then I switched to Sugarsync which has proven difficult for the lads I play with to hook up to as it's primary function is a personal backup site.

I'm looking for a site where I can upload the tunes in MP3 format and send a link to the lads and they can either stream or download the songs on their end. And I would prefer it not to cost an arm and a leg.

Can anyone help?

Bryan

What about setting yourself up a free Google site?

http://www.google.com/sites/help/intl/en/overview.html

Its worked for one of my bands in the past.
You can upload any file up to 250 MB.
You'll have 1 GB of free storage for files and you can by additional space at $0.25 per GB per year.

I use Yousendit to send to my bandmates. It only uploads for a week but that's enough.

Myspace is free and has streaming audio.
Youtube but it would be in video format, which wouldn't be hard to make.
Yahoo has a groups page you can upload files to.
I hear Last.fm is free and you can upload mp3's.

Hope I helped. And if you use youtube, disable comments. You might end up getting trolls who do nothing but insult other people.

I still think Google is a good bet.
You can also use the calendar and site to share information.

I use the public folder of my .Mac/MobileMe account to share recordings with bandmates. Dropbox would accomplish the same thing.

Why not just use the free web space your ISP provides? I assume they all do it (all the ones I've had did).

I guess it depends on how much space they give you, but my current provider (Netspace) gives me 100 Meg. Same as you I use a Zoom H2; I just upload the recordings to my web space and delete 'em when everybody's got a copy.

Ditto. Only I've used different isp's (AT&T and Comcast) but they offered the space just the same.

if you have a myspace page, upload the tunes, set them to private, give everyone the log in info.....no new sites, no new log-ins to keep sorted, no chance of someone hearing a bad arrangement or a lick that didn't work out....my $.03

Info Much Appreciated!

Just wanted to let everyone who replied to my post how thankful I am for all the replies.

I'm trying Dropbox for the time being and it seems to be working well. Some of my bandmates are somewhat cyber challenged so it had to be dead simple and Dropbox also allows one to download the tunes and burn them for listening while driving.

Thanks again,
Bryan

We had a similar problem with our band and decided to make a small very!!! simple homepage to upload and share our files. We did this with a editor from our web host. We are the only persons that can access the page so no one can "steal" anything. For promo and everything else we still use myspace.
