Question Macbook USB problems! Help!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello!

I have a Macbook version 10.5.8 and have been getting a USB over current notice from my Alesis Q49. It was working fine until about 3 weeks ago when it starting taking too much power. I purchased a powered hub, powered the keyboard and still the same results.

I only get the over current notice from the Alesis Q49. I still run a M-Audio Fast track and a mouse with no problems.

Do I need to just get it checked out at a Mac repair store?

no more warranty either..

Has anyone run in to this problem even with a powered hub?

Thanks!

Going to as soon as I get around another Mac. I'm assuming that will be a much cheaper fix than bring my Mac to a computer shop.

Have you tried different USB ports? They are not all equal on a MacBook. The builtin keyboard, the DVD drive, etc are all on a USB buss. Unless you have an Air model, which has one USB or 2.

I'd try unplugging everything except the Q. Plug it in, then check About this Mac and see which USB buss is being used. Then plug it into another port. See which USB buss that port is. You might find a combination of plugging stuff in that works again. Swap the cable too.

This!

What size and year is your MBP? For a late model 13", the rear most port has the highest amperage available and the front has the fast throughput. So soundcard in the front and peripherals in the back. This is the DJ bible!

For 15 and 17 it gets complicated and really depends, the right side port is either awesome or crap depending on the configuration.

Still get the same result even switching cables and the two different ports.
