MBox 2 Pro, PT9 Upgrade Question.

Sign in to disble this ad
Like many others before the Pro Tools 9 revelation, I had purchased a MBox 2 Pro for the sole reason of using the Pro Tools Software. By no means was it my first choice interface.

I recently purchased the Pro Tools 9 (student) upgrade from Pro Tools 8 LE.

As far as I remember all I had to do was enter a number of the back of my MBox in order to install the software. Does this mean I can now sell on my MBox 2 Pro? Obviously I would need to keep a record of the MBox number if/when I need to reinstall.

Am I correct in saying this?

I tried running Pro Tools 9 without my MBox 2 pro and it did not work. I was not allowed to start the program. When I plugged the interface back in, everything worked fine.

Running on my macbook I have ran PT9 through the onboard sound with no problems. I haven't used with anything else though. Surely the upgrade still works on the same HW basis as the standard PT9 install!?

PT 9 authentication is now on your iLock. The hardware interface doesn't matter anymore. If you lose your iLock you may have some hoops to jump through to get your authentication again.
So yes; you can get rid of you mBox and use any interface. This is from my experience with PT9, I don't know if the student version of PT9 is different.
