MBox and Pro Tools for Dummies?

Sign in to disble this ad
Can someone give some advise on how to get set up with an Mbox and pro tools software? I had a friend recommend these for home recording. It is something I have wanted to do for a while. It is all new to me so I need some advice for sure. Looking on some websites it seems there are a lot of different mboxes. Can you plug a vocal mic into these units?

If you want to start recording using Pro Tools you are going to be very frustrated if you know nothing about basic recording equipment or techniques. Anything from the M-Box Mini on up will give you at least one Microphone preamp, (the XLR input) that you will need for a vocal mic.
I am a certified Pro Tools operator and use it everyday at work and there are still things I have to look up to figure out. It is not the kind of software you just play with and become an expert on. I would suggest you get a book such as the Pro Tools 101 book from the certification courses. It would get you started, but you also need to learn as much as you can about recording techniques and methods. There are hundreds of books and online info learn from.

I love Pro Tools and once you learn your way around it is a breeze, but it will frustrate the crap out of you if you don't know what you are doing.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I know software can be a nuisance to learn. My initial use for this would be to lay down some bass tracks for the purpose of writing some tunes. Nothing fancy.

Are there any tuitorials to help learn this?

YouTube has plenty of PT tutorials. I think Digidesign website has detailed info, too...

+1 Pro-Tools has quite a learning curve even to do the basics. Also and more important Pro Tools will only run on specific hardware and OS's and they mean it. Spend time on the Digi website read system requirements before you buy anything.
