Mic inputs on the Digi 002

Can I run the xlr out of my bass preamp into the xlr mic input of the Digi 002?

I always figured it would be fine, but my brother said something about the impedence being different to a mic and that it might damage the mic input/pre?

I think it would be ok but....It would be better to use a direct box between them.

I thought the xlr out on my preamp would be the same thing as a DI surely?

thought so too, and you can switch between line level and mic level on the 4 preamps, so not sure that any of this really makes sense.

If I am wrong then I would love to be educated

I record in this configuration all the time. The XLR out on your preamp is (ordinarily) a DI. Impedances should be nice and matched.

well youd have to see if going through your bass head will sound better than just running straight into the 002. When you click the switch between the xlr and the quarter inch in you are switching the impedence so you could do either. Id just figure out which one sounds better to you. Not matching impedences doesnt damage equipment to my knowledge, it just sound thin and wimpy. Either way you do not have that problem in this situation.
