Mic for Live Recording

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently use the internal mic on my Tascam DR-07 for recording rehearsals.

Can anyone recommend a good dynamic mic for use with my Tascam? I am looking for something with a little more range and flatter response. Budget would be around $200 max.

Thanks

Do you want to record the whole band, or just your amp? If you want to record the whole band, an omnidirectional or a pair of cardiod condenser mics would be a better idea.

I'm trying to record the whole band.

I had chosen a dynamic mic because I was told it would work with my recorder (Tascam DR-07 3.5mm stereo input for mic). That being said, I do not necessarily object to an omni or a condenser.

I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to the world of mics, so any input is appreciated.

The mics on the little porta recorders are usually very good.

You probably just need to EQ the track before playing it back on what ever you play it back on. You can pull them into Audacity and EQ them, then burn to CD.

I even bet the porta recorder has some EQ on it. My cheap little one does but it's not a Tascam.

Good point, and you're right that the onboard mic is pretty good. I guess my main problem with it is the low freq response . . . perhaps I should try setting up closer to my cab

Yeah, I've played with the filters and Audacity and I know I can EQ thing s back in but I was hoping to do a better job of capturing the signal in the first place.

I don't know the Tascam Dr 07 but I read there's a low cut filter you can set between 40 and 120hz. Check if this function is enabled, if it is disable and try re-recording.

Placing the DR closer to your cab might not be a good solution and could introduce distortion to the recordings, if the volume is to high and the mics are not design to handl high SPL.
