Micron as MIDI keyboard?

I have an Alesis Micron, M-Audio UNO and a computer running XP. I wish to use the Micron as a MIDI keyboard so I can play and possibly record piano (not just synth) at my desk.

Is this possible?
Do I have all the necessary components?
What is a decent/simple/free software program to use?
