microphone help?

i got this vintage (that's how you make 'really old' sound awesome) mic in my room, and i've been using it to record acoustic guitar to my pc for over a year. (i use the line out-> line in for bass, btw) the thing is, yesterday it suddenly stopped working. and i don't mean the mic broke down, my pc just doesn't detect it somehow. i've checked and double checked all my settings, looked thrice if it's in the right port, tried with differen mics, checked the volume settings, etc. everything. and it just, refuses. could someone help me out?

i'm using audacity on windows xp, if knowing that does any good.
please help me, i love playing a chord progression in audacity and improvising bass on it, it really helps me .

One thing I've learned the hard way, waaaaay to many times . . .

Check cables and reseat them. Meaning while your system is off, pull the cables all the way out and put them back in to give them a fresh reseat. Sometimes they come loose a bit from jostling around, accidental pulling or just by sheer magic.

Try that in addition to everything you've been doing. If you still have probs post again and we'll try and help you further. Good luck.

Sometimes old mics´ diaphgrams just die, as happened to 2 of my Shure S545D´s... They could "die" due to moisture, excessive SPL etc. or just plain age (the plastic could be seriously degraded)...

I hope yours did not. Check cables and connections for oxidation...
